Keyboard shortcuts
Move through the Inbox, reply and search without the mouse, and turn single-key shortcuts off if they get in your way.
The Inbox has keyboard shortcuts for the things you do all day: moving between conversations, replying and searching.
To see the list in the app, press ? in the Inbox, or click Keyboard shortcuts (the keyboard icon) next to the search box.
Inbox shortcuts
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| / | Search conversations |
| J | Next conversation |
| K | Previous conversation |
| R | Write a reply (puts your cursor in the reply box) |
| I | Show or hide customer details |
| Esc | Back (phone width): from customer details to the conversation, or from the conversation to the list |
| ? | Show these shortcuts |
Shortcuts work when you aren't typing in a box and no menu or dialog is open. Press Esc or click outside a box first.
In the reply box
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enter | Send the reply |
| Shift + Enter | New line in the reply |
| / at the start of a line | Open the saved replies list |
| Up / Down | Move through the saved replies list |
| Enter or Tab | Insert the highlighted saved reply |
| Esc | Close the saved replies list |
In an internal note, Ctrl + Enter saves the note and Esc discards it. See Saved replies and Internal notes.
Turn off single-key shortcuts
Single-letter shortcuts can be triggered by accident, for example with speech input, where a spoken word can contain one of the letters. You can turn them off:
- In the Inbox, press ? or click Keyboard shortcuts.
- Switch off Single-key shortcuts.
With them off, only Esc and the reply box's Enter keep working. The setting is remembered in this browser only.
Anywhere in the app
Press Ctrl + K (or ⌘ K on a Mac) to open the command palette. Type to jump to a section, or to find a contact or conversation. See Finding your way.
