Broadcasts overview

What a campaign is, how one moves from draft to completed, and how to read the campaign list.

A broadcast (called a campaign in the app) sends one approved WhatsApp template to a list of contacts. Each campaign is made of three things: an audience, an approved template and a schedule. Nothing is sent until you send it.

Go to Campaigns › Broadcasts. The page is titled Campaigns.

How a campaign works

  1. Build an audience from a saved segment of contacts. See Audiences.
  2. Compose the campaign: choose the audience and an approved template, fill in the template's blanks, and choose when and how fast to send. See Create a broadcast.
  3. Resolve the audience: this turns the audience into a fixed list of recipients, leaving out anyone who opted out or is missing a value the message needs.
  4. Send a test to yourself or a colleague (optional, but recommended).
  5. Send now or at a set time, then pause or resume if needed. See Schedule and send.
  6. Watch the results as they come in. See Campaign results.

The campaign list

ColumnWhat it shows
CampaignThe campaign's name. Click it to open the campaign.
StatusWhere the campaign is (see below).
RecipientsHow many recipients the fixed list has, or Not resolved yet for a draft.
ProgressA live progress bar for campaigns that have a recipient list.
UpdatedWhen the campaign last changed.

Use the status buttons above the list to show campaigns in one status, or All.

The buttons at the top of the page take you to Audiences, Opt-outs, and, if your role can see them, Tracked links and Attribution.

Limits to know

  • A single campaign sends to at most 10,000 recipients.
  • Only templates Meta has approved for your WhatsApp account can be used. See Message templates.
  • Template messages use your plan's message allowance and your WhatsApp credits. See WhatsApp credits and Usage.
