Add a contact
Create a single contact by hand from their WhatsApp number.
Most contacts arrive on their own when a customer messages you. To add someone before they have written to you, create the contact by hand. For many contacts at once, import a CSV instead.
Note: Adding contacts is limited to Owners, Admins and Marketing Managers.
Add a contact
- Go to Contacts › All contacts.
- Click New contact.
- Enter the WhatsApp number with its country code, digits only (for example
919876543210). Spaces, a leading+and other symbols are removed for you. - Optionally, enter a Display name.
- Optionally, enter a Locale, such as
enoren_IN. - Click New contact to save.
The new contact's page opens, where you can add tags, fill in custom fields and record consent.
If the number already exists
Each WhatsApp number can belong to only one contact. If you enter a number that is already a contact, you see A contact with that WhatsApp number already exists. Click Open the existing contact to go to it.
After you add the contact
- The contact's Source shows Added by hand.
- Their Consent shows Not recorded until you record an opt-in. If you plan to send them campaigns, record their consent with evidence. See Opt-outs and consent.
- The WhatsApp number cannot be changed later. To correct a wrong number, delete the contact and add it again.
Tip: Adding a contact does not send them anything. To start a conversation with someone who has not messaged you, you need an approved message template. See The 24-hour window and templates.
